Bogota

Finally left the Wild Rover, was sad to leave but there's so much more I need to see and explore in South America. Of course the flight was delayed so I didn't get to Bogota till 3am. The air hostess made up for it, giving me a double rum and coke as well as a beer. Custom officer didn't speak English but I managed to get in using my still terrible Spanish. Jumped in a taxi, no seat belt, same as Peru. 120kmh, broke 3 red lights and overtook the police, but I got to the Cranky Croc for 3.30, checked in and got to bed for 4! Cranky croc was a lot quieter than the wild rover but that was probably what was needed. Woke up early Saturday as I wanted to watch the Liverpool match, everywhere seemed closed and nobody knew what I was talking about. 45 minutes of wandering around Bogota and I found a restaurant 'Supermeat' that had the game on projector. Got a massive feed for around €3.

Wandered back to the croc for a nap before having a few beers with other travellers in the common room. Sunday morning I got up at 10, and did the walking graffiti tour, which was very interesting and impressive.

Got back to the hostel, and facetimed home. I invited Craig, a Canadian guy at the hostel up the mountain with me. The two of us headed off up to the funicular thru a local market, that was selling some pretty cool stuff! The funicular cost 10,000 pesos (€3) to go up and back down. At the top there were more markets and food stalls as well as a big church and some great views of Bogota.

We ended up queuing for an hour and a half to get back down because apparently on Sunday's all of thelocals go up, and Colombians hate hiking.

Got back to the hostel and Taylor told me she had also booked a flight to Santa Marta on Monday. So we shared a taxi to the airport, but our flight had been delayed by 2hrs. So we had 4 hours to kill in the airport. I got McDonald's and we decided we'd try go thru security, no bother the guy even moved my drink to the corner so it wouldn't spill! Going thru security was a big mistake so we spent the next 20 mins coming up with clever ways to get back out to the the bar! Eventually we went with honesty is the best policy and Taylor speaks Spanish, so we walked straight out and into the first bar 3 hours 45 mins later (7 cocktails) we headed to security, grabbing one drink for the road! Managed to annoy the guy next to us for the majority of the flight, although I think he enjoyed us.

Santa Marta was roasting hot, it was 9 o' clock at night, but soon as we got off the plane we were sweating. Waiting for our bags I managed to get involved in a screaming game with a little boy, which made him laugh a lot and I'm sure everyone else at the airport thought it was fun too.

Got a taxi to dreamer Hostel, it was fully booked out so I ended up sleeping on a hammock in the garden for the night, which turned out to be quite relaxing until I woke at sunrise (5.30) and couldn't get back to sleep.
